From Duluth to Rush City, drivers traversing eastern Minnesota have gotten their share of snow this winter.
The latest storm started out as freezing rain for Greg Karlen as he left Duluth on his way to the Twin Cities.
"We were going 30 to 40 miles an hour when it turned to snow again, so that made driving easier," said Karlen.
While the new powder may have been a nuisance for drivers, it is white gold for snowmobilers.
"It gives you a more comfortable ride. It is easier on your back and real good on your machine. That's the enjoyment, when you are in real snow," said snowmobiler Mike Danfelt.
Snowmobiler Steve Meyers said he took advantage all day, saying "We started at 8 in the morning. We had a good day in, had about 200 miles put in."
As soon as the snow began to fall, the Holiday gas station in Rush City became snowmobile central. Many spent the day riding from the St. Croix Forest to Wisconsin, stopping only to fill up their snowmobiles before getting back on the trails.
"They're loving it. They are really excited," said Holiday shift manager Carrie Snider. "Some people coming in are complaining that we could get 6 to 10 more inches, but the snowmobilers say they love it."
Snowmobilers said the snow is a foot-and-a-half deep in fields around Rush City compared to just a couple inches of snow at this time last winter. Business at the Rush City Holiday has almost doubled compared to this time last year.
