Tornado Warnings, Watches Issued Around Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for southeastern Douglas County. According to NWS, radar is tracking rotation near Alexandria and moving east at about 15 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, much of Minnesota is getting for the possibility of more severe weather Thursday afternoon and evening. The NWS issued a severe thunderstorm watch for two dozen counties in west central Minnesota.

According to WCCO meteorologist Mike Augustyniak, parts of central and southern Minnesota are likely to see severe weather. Tornadoes are also a possibility. The National Weather Service also issued a statement saying large hail and damaging winds are possible.

Augustyniak said, much like Wednesday's storms, the state should expect to see scattered, pop-up thunderstorms beginning late Thursday afternoon and into the evening as a warm front moves in from the south.

The possible thunderstorms could also bring the potential for strong winds and hail.

He said Thursday's storms should be more widespread than Wednesday's. Southwest Wisconsin can also expect to see the threat for severe weather action.

In all likelihood, Thursday won't be the last day in the extended forecast with storms.

Augustyniak said Friday may also bring a chance for severe weather, and the early part of next work week may have the same type of weather pattern that brought Wednesday's storms.
