That's A Change -- It's Raining!
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―
Look a little different outside today?
After the driest start to September on record, rain has finally moved into southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities metro area.
In the past 30 days, the metro area has seen 0.09 inches of rain. WCCO-TV meteorologist Mike Augustyniak said it's been so dry that some trees have been dropping their leaves early and in some cases, are dropping their leaves before they even change color.
Because of the dry conditions, fall color won't be as vibrant this year, Augustyniak said.
The system has already dropped a significant amount of rain on parts of southern Minnesota. Fairmont has received 2.71 inches of rain, Montevideo has seen 2.12 inches of rain and Marshall got 1.95 inches of rain in the past 24 hours.
Augustyniak thinks, on average, the Twin Cities metro area will see about a half-inch of rain Friday.
The rain is moving slowly toward the north. Augustyniak believes the rain will move out of the metro area by the early evening.
There's a chance of showers on Saturday, with highs in the lower 70s. The wind will increase on Sunday and will last through Monday, when the high will be near 60.
