It didn't rain much in September, but October looks to be shaping up a little differently -- at least the beginning of the month.
Rain Today, Tomorrow
A wind-driven rainstorm will linger across much of Minnesota for Thursday and Friday. WCCO-TV meteorologist Mike Augustyniak said on average, most places will see a half-inch to an inch of rain before the rain stops late Friday.
Winds will be from the southeast at 25-35 mph Thursday and will be a little lighter on Friday. It will be cool, with the high on Thursday reaching 54 and only 50 on Friday.
Saturday's shaping up to be cloudy, but mostly dry, with just a few spotty showers, Augustyniak said. It will be cool still, with a high around 50.
Sunday looks dry, but another rain system is expected to move into the area for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Almost A September For The Records
It was a warm and dry September. It was the third-driest September on record, with only 0.46 inches of rain at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The majority of that rain fell from one storm, on the 24th and 25th of the month.
The driest September on record was in 1940. On average, the Twin Cities sees 2.75 inches of rain in September.
Not all places across the state had a dry month. Some areas in southwestern Minnesota received nearly 3 inches of rain from Sept. 22-28 alone.
It WAS A Warm Month
It was warm, too. Up until Sept. 24, the metro area was in the running for the warmest September on record, but the cooler temperatures the past few days knocked it out of the top 10.
It was 5.5 degrees warmer than average during the month of September. The high on Sept. 1 averages around 76 degrees and falls 10 degrees during the month to an average high of 66 degrees.
