Light Frost Hits Parts Of Iron Range

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) ― A light frost hit parts of the Iron Range, but it wasn't hard enough to kill many outdoor plants and flowers.

The National Weather Service says the temperature dropped to 27 degrees in Embarrass on Monday morning, and 32 degrees in Hibbing, Tower and Eveleth.

This was the last chance for below-freezing temperatures on the range for some time. The forecast for the rest of the week is highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s.

The early shot of cold is unusual even for Embarrass, which is frequently posts the coldest temperatures in the state.

For example, nearby Cook doesn't typically see its first heavy frost until September 10th. The Duluth airport typically sees its first frost about September 23rd.
