Meteorologists: Despite Late Snow, Winter 'Normal'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― People across the Twin Cities woke up this morning to snow on the ground. While some people braved the strong winds to walk outdoors, it was hard to find a shopper in the Outdoor Nursery at Bachman's.

"Words cannot express how I feel about the weather," said Megan Hertzler, who was hoping to put all of her sweaters away over the weekend.

Workers at the nursery took many of the annuals inside Friday night. Only the pansies are able to brave the storm.

Bachman's superintendent Steven Teorey put his pants away for the season earlier this month. His shorts did keep him warm Saturday.

"Because it's April 26th and it's supposed to be warm. It's not supposed to be snowing," he said.

Last year at this time, it was 85 degrees. On April 29, 1984, it snowed 6 inches in the Cities.

"You always think spring seems to be really late. But, this year, it is really late," said Hertzler.

Meteorologists say late April snow is rare, but this winter has been normal. We've been spoiled with warm winters over the past few years.
