Lakeville Investigates False Siren Activations

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) ― The city of Lakeville is investigating the cause of two false activations of outdoor warning sirens that happened Oct. 30 and Nov. 4.

The first false activation on Oct. 30 occurred at 9 p.m. and involved several outdoor warning sirens. At about 7:15 a.m. on Nov. 4, the second false activation occurred.

"Our Emergency Management Director and siren technicians have been working on this issue to ensure that the outdoor siren warning system is working properly," said Lakeville Police Chief Tom Vonhof. "Their initial investigation has found that the individual sirens that experience false activations appear to have been operating properly, which leads us to believe that the false activations may be caused by an unknown source radio signal."

Lakeville has 21 outdoor warning sirens that are designed to warn of approaching severe or threatening weather conditions.
