Wilkin Co. Fair To Go On Despite Flooding

WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) ― Officials don't expect the heavy rainfall that led to street and home flooding in Wahpeton to result in any significant Red River flooding problems.

But it could cause headaches for the Wilkin County Fair in neighboring Breckenridge, Minnesota.

Storms on Monday dropped up to 7 inches of rain on the Wahpeton area. The National Weather Service says the Red River is expected to crest just below flood stage in Wahpeton and half a foot above flood stage downstream in Fargo. But only minor flooding is expected in the Fargo area.

Officials say the Wilkin County Fair in neighboring Breckenridge, Minn., will go on as scheduled. The fair runs tomorrow through Sunday in Wells Park. The city has been pumping water out of the park.

Some changes will be made in where people will be allowed to park, and the rides and concessions will be on higher ground.
