Damage Assessments Begin In N.D.

Slideshow: Flooding In Red River Valley

FARGO, N.D. (AP) ― Teams of federal, state and local officials are starting the process of surveying storm and flood damage in North Dakota counties.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the ground surveys of neighborhoods will gather data that will be used to help determine whether the federal government makes individual assistance available under a presidential disaster declaration.

FEMA spokeswoman Susan Solomon says the surveys are starting Wednesday in Emmons, Kidder, Mercer and Morton counties. On Thursday they're planned in Hettinger, Adams and Billings counties. Other counties will follow later.
