Fargo To Build Dikes Foot Higher

FARGO, N.D. (AP) ― An updated crest projection for the Red River at Fargo has city officials saying they'll add another foot to their dikes.

The National Weather Service had been giving a range for the crest, but has now narrowed that to 41 feet by early Saturday afternoon.

The river was at 35.6 feet by midday Wednesday. Fargo's record is 39.6 feet, set in 1997.

The city now plans to build its dikes to 43 feet. City officials say they're still confident they'll beat the flood, but they plan to begin distributing information Thursday on evacuation routes.
