Red River Now Projected To Crest Saturday In Fargo

Slideshow: Flooding In Red River Valley

FARGO, N.D. (AP) ― The National Weather Service now projects the Red River to crest in Fargo at a record 41 feet by early Saturday afternoon.

The river had risen to 35.6 feet by midday Wednesday. The record for Fargo is 39.6 feet set in the 1997 flood.

The weather service had previously given only a range for the crest.

The weather service has also narrowed its flood forecast for Grand Forks, the city hardest hit by the 1997 Red River flood.

The Red had risen to 42.5 feet in Grand Forks by midday with a crest near 52 feet projected for early Monday afternoon. That would be short of the record of 54.4 feet set in 1997.
