Hugo Family Captures Tornado On Home Video
HUGO, Minn. (WCCO) ―
Darkened skies gave Dreyling and his family a clue that something big was coming. A couple of minutes later, strong winds battered the neighborhood, but the family still wasn't sure how bad the storm would be. Then, they realized it was time to stop watching and start running for the basement.
Dreyling kept taping from the basement, watching his neighbors' homes pulled apart.
"You just see the debris and everything blowing across right behind our house and it hit all the houses behind us. We dove for the closet and came out 10, 20 seconds later. It was that quick," said Dreyling.
The Dreyling's home made it through without much damage, but homes were destroyed only 100 yards away.
Next, the heavy hail fell. By then, the Dreylings knew they were the lucky ones to be watching the devastation, and not living it.
"It just missed us," said Dreyling as he filmed a home video of the storm.
