Blind Man Stranded By Snow-Covered Sidewalk

WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) ― A blind man and his service dog became stranded after a snowdrift blocked a sidewalk in Willmar.

Police say the dog didn't know how to guide the man and apparently became disoriented and stopped on the path near Willmar's Super Wal-Mart early Thursday evening.

The man ended up calling police and officers gave the pair a ride home.

Police notified Wal-Mart and the city of Willmar about the sidewalk because it's a violation of city ordinance to not clear public walkways.

Wal-Mart Assistant Manager Cory Schorn says store officials were not aware the store was responsible for clearing the sidewalk until receiving the call from police.

He says the sidewalk has now been cleared and crews will continue to keep the path clear.
