An Indianola city street on the town square is closed after a building housing a restaurant collapsed sending bricks crashing into the street and an alley.
Fire Chief Brian Seymour says the One Stop on the Square restaurant collapsed at 7:45 a.m. Sunday. The cause isn't yet known. He says three other neighboring buildings may also have damage. Seven families living in apartments above businesses on the same street are in motels until engineers can assess the buildings.
The collapsed building's owner says a wall had begun to bow outward recently and she had called someone to assess the crack but didn't expect the whole thing to collapse.
Barbara Martsching says the building isn't repairable. The county assessor values the building at $107,000.
