If you have ever been in any of New York City's subway stations, you've probably heard them - the sweet sounds of the underground. Not all of them are great, but it is the spirit of the underground world that has become an integral part of the city's transit system.
The New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority will announce the winners of the "Music Under New York" auditions held two weeks ago, reports CBS station WCBS-TV in New York.
On May 1, a group of 55 musicians and musical groups auditioned for the chance to perform under the MTA's new program. Through those auditions, a panel of judges selected 23 ensembles, whose names will be announced on Thursday. In addition, three of the selected ensembles will perfom and be available for interviews.
The winning acts are supposed to represent a variety of styles, cultural backrounds and instruments.
Not all performers in the city's subway stations are endorsed by the MTA. The 23 winners will be allowed to perform throughout the city underground legally.
