Special Delivery: Baby Born On Highway
(WCCO)
A Minnesota couple are the proud parents of a little baby girl that was delivered on a highway Tuesday afternoon.
Little Taylor Marie Freundschuh didn't cry or scream during the delivery and her mom, Renee Freundschuh spent only 20 minutes delivering her child.
"I'll never forget it," said Tony Freundschuh, the proud father.
He and his wife left their home just after noon and raced down County Road 22 on their way to the hospital, but they didn't get very far.
"She just let out this piercing scream," said Tony.
He knew, when he heard his wife, it was time for the baby to be born.
"I just kept telling her to keep breathing and don't push. We're going to make it," Tony recalled.
They were just a mile from Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, Minn.
Tony pulled over the car, jumped out and ran to the passenger side.
His Toyota quickly became a hospital room, and he, a local salesman, became the doctor.
"Just braced the head and once those shoulders turned, I just grabbed her by the head, and her butt -- put her up on mom," he recalled. "I've done my fair share of fishing and she was a slippery little fish. I was afraid I was going to drop her."
"Actually seeing her being born, it was just so awesome. Then looking down and I go 'it's a girl!' It was just such a great surprise," said the proud mom Renee.
"I put the baby on her stomach, and she just had a big grin on her face. I definitely did not have a big grin on my face. I think I was a little more freaking out," said Tony.
A couple driving by stopped to help the family. Paramedics showed up, and then it was off to the hospital.
Little Taylor Marie is healthy. The couple's dream of having a child is now complete, and the real dream Tony had over and over again of delivering his own child, actually came true too.
"When she's old enough to hear this story, she'll hear it," the family said.
They hope to go home from the hospital Wednesday morning.
