Stolen $25,000 Bronze Statue Found In Scrap Yard

COVINA, Calif. (AP) ― A $25,000 bronze statue of a girl holding a balloon and an ice cream cone has been recovered from a San Gabriel Valley scrap yard after a thief tried to sell it for just $180.

The statue, which was reported stolen last month, belonged to a real estate firm in Covina.

It was recovered when employees at Continental Recycling in Montclair called the police.

Not all of the statue was recovered -- the bronze balloon the little girl was holding was cut off and is presumed to have been smelted.
