Motorized 'DWI Chair' Sells Online For Over $10K

(WCCO) The chair that landed a Minnesota man in jail has a new owner.

In 2008, police in Proctor, Minn. busted Dennis Anderson for driving drunk after he crashed the motorized recliner into a car while leaving a bar.

The cops seized it and sold it on eBay Thursday for $10,099.99.

The town of Proctor is so small that there are only a few blocks between Anderson's house, the spot where he crashed his chair and the Proctor Police Department garage where the chair has been sitting for the past year waiting for its owner.

"It put the town of Proctor itself on the map," said one town resident.

The bidding ended at 7:11 p.m. Thursday after five days on eBay.

"Let's take our blessings, ya know, at the $10,000 mark," said the town's chief, Walter Wobig.

It was a far cry from last week's $43,000 bid posted before eBay yanked it down because the description said La-Z-Boy -- even if it was obvious that the chair is far from a brand name.

"Cassette Player, cup holder," said Wobig describing the chair. "You have your racing steering wheel with your nitrous oxide injector button."

The homemade chair seems to have all the bells and whistles.

"For crying out loud, ($10,099.99) for a motorized chair that's built on a lawnmower frame ... that's not bad," laughed Wobig. "This is really a windfall for the small town of Proctor."

In addition to the money, the town has a lot of humor about the incident.

The bar where Anderson lost his ride put up a sign that says, "Free La-Z-Boy Lounge Chairs Parking In The Back."

The chief said he has never used eBay, so he's not sure exactly when he'll find out who bought it.

He sent that person an e-mail though asking them to call his office on Friday morning.
