Buyer Backs Out Of $10K Motorized 'DWI Chair' Bid

PROCTOR, Minn. (WCCO) ― A man from California, who won the bidding war on the famous motorized DWI chair with a bid of more than $10,000, said it was all a mistake and he can't afford that price.

The City of Proctor, Minn. sent a message to Clayton Adler, of Cupertino, Calif., informing him of his winning bid and requesting a $2,000 deposit for the chair on Nov. 5.

Then on Monday, the city contacted Adler again stating they hadn't received his deposit and that he should contact the city.

Later that day, the city received the following message from Adler:

Dear City of Proctor,

To Whom It May Concern,

I apologize, but there seems to be a mistake. I did not mean to bid this amount, as well as I cannot afford this. I am truly sorry for the mix up and the wasted time.

The city has contacted the second highest bidder for a chance to purchase the motorized chair, however, there has been no answer and the offer will expire soon.

Adler has been turned over to the city attorney due to his matter of non-payment.

In 2008, police in Proctor busted Dennis Anderson for driving drunk after he crashed the motorized recliner into a car while leaving a bar.

The cops seized it and sold it on eBay Thursday for $10,099.99.
