Childress Prepares To Take On Former Team
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) ―
Brad Childress shouldn't
have to conceal his laminated play sheet from the eagle eyes of the Philadelphia coach staff
on Sunday. They probably know it by
heart.
It is student versus
teacher at noon with Childress locking horns with Andy Reid in a game both
teams desperately need to win.
"I understand their
personnel better than most," Childress said.
But the question is,
will the former Eagles offensive coordinator's knowledge make a difference on
Sunday?
It might help that
backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb will likely start. He'll try to use what he learned running the
Eagles' scout team as a fourth-string quarterback last season.
"Getting to see
those guys day in and day out at practice, you know, in the mini-camps and OTAs
and training camp, you know, I think that will have some benefit, no doubt,"
Holcomb said.
All the familiarity the Vikings may
have about the Eagles won't mean much if they don't have a quarterback who can
make routine plays and neither Tarvaris Jackson nor Holcomb have proved that
they can.
Holcomb is probably remembered most
for the touchdown pass he overthrew at Kansas
City in his first start. He promises a much-improved performance.
"I did feel comfortable in the
Green Bay game,"
Holcomb said. "If it happens this weekend, I'll be ready."
The familiarity factor for the
Vikings may be more important when it comes to Holcomb knowing his own offense
and understanding his teammates.
"I've been around for a little
while now," Holcomb said. "You learn how people run different routes
and you know, it's just a familiarity thing."
