Linebacker E.J. Henderson has been named the Minnesota Vikings Community Man of the Year.
Henderson established the E.J. Henderson Youth Foundation in 2007 to help urban youth in the Twin Cities with academic and athletic support. He donated $100,000 of his own money to start the foundation and continues to subsidize it while helping youngsters both on the field and in the classroom.
Henderson called it an honor to take the award this year. Former center Matt Birk was an annual winner of the award during his long tenure in Minnesota. But he moved on to Baltimore this season.
Henderson's name will be added to a list of the winners for the other 31 teams in a competition for the NFL's Man of the Year award, which will be announced at the Super Bowl.
