Sun Country Asks Lawmakers For Financial Help

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Mendota Heights-based Sun Country Airlines is telling lawmakers that it needs around $50 million over the next two years to help maintain its regular flights out of the Twin Cities.

Sun Country Chief Executive Stan Gadek says the financial help is necessary because of record high fuel costs. He says the help could come in reduced airport fees or a loan.

Sun Country saw its losses almost triple in the 12 months ended in March.

Gadek made his case for state aid Wednesday to several members of the Senate's committee on Business, Industry and Jobs. He hopes to meet with the Metropolitan Airports Commission in the next month or so.
