A Northwest Airlink regional jet collided Thursday with a
luggage-hauling vehicle in a taxi lane at Detroit Metropolitan Airport,
damaging the plane's left wing and spilling fuel onto the ground.
The
driver of the Delta luggage tug was taken to a hospital with minor
injuries, but no one on the plane operated by Pinnacle Airlines was
hurt in the accident about 6 a.m., airport spokesman Mike Conway said.
The
plane carrying 21 passengers and three crew had arrived at the airport
from Grand Rapids and was taxiing to the gate at the time of the
accident, Conway said.
Fuel began leaking from the plane onto
the ground following the collision, Pinnacle spokesman Joe Williams
said, and foam was sprayed on the aircraft as a precaution by crews
that were called the scene.
Passengers were taken to the terminal by shuttle bus, Conway said.
The
cause of the accident was under investigation, but Williams said both
the plane and luggage tug were moving at the time of the collision.
Conway said other flights weren't disrupted at the airport in Romulus, about 15 miles southwest of Detroit.
