Good To Know: Reminding The Pilots To Land
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―
Two Northwest pilots are in big trouble after missing the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport by one hundred and fifty miles. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. Don says, he'd like to take a crack at this one.
The pilots don't respond to air traffic controllers trying to reach them when the plane misses MSP and keeps flying into Wisconsin.
DOD verges on scrambling jets at this wayward plane that, who knows, could have been hijacked -- could be terrorism.
It was reported the pilots originally said they were distracted because they were arguing. Some folks said they were asleep.
If I were on the investigation team, I would ask other questions:
Could ground control have called the airplane on that phone the attendants talk into?
Did the attendants feel "hinky" that they were way off time to land?
Did the attendants try to holler at the captain and first officer to (A.) stop them from quarreling and get back to flying the plane or (B.) wake (them) up, if necessary?
As you heard tonight, the pilots said they did nothing wrong. Well, unless Wisconsin was in the flightplan, something was wrong.
We await the answers.
