Midwest Airlines Stopping Duluth-Milwaukee Flights
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) ―
Nine months after launching daily flights between Duluth and Milwaukee, Midwest Airlines will discontinue all service to the city, officials announced Monday.
The flights will end Dec. 1 after the airline reported it wasn't making enough profit on the route.
People who already booked flights in December and after will be contacted and will likely be placed on Northwest Airlines flights, Midwest officials said.
The carrier started service between Duluth and Milwaukee with three daily round-trip flights. Officials last month reduced the schedule to two flights between the cities.
Duluth Airport Authority director Brian Ryks said the authority was told that Duluth load factors in August performed well in the Midwest Connect system and that the airline's passenger traffic increased 22 percent while the service was offered.
"We are extremely disappointed by Midwest Airline's decision," he said in a written statement.
Come December, Northwest will be the only airline offering daily service to Duluth. Allegiant Air has said it will continue offering weekly round-trip flights between Duluth and Las Vegas and in March will start offering three flights weekly.
