Delta Air Lines says it is pulling out of St. Cloud Regional Airport.
As of Dec. 31, Mesaba Airlines, which is part of Delta, will no longer schedule flights between St. Cloud and Minneapolis.
Delta says it's reducing select flights that are unprofitable, because of declining demand.
However, airport Director Bill Towle contends that Delta created less demand by offering fewer flights over the past year.
Mayor Dave Kleis calls the news disappointing but says it provides an opportunity to bring in an airline that might connect St. Cloud with Chicago. St. Cloud has been trying to attract a second carrier to the airport.
Delta will offer refunds or alternative transportation for customers who booked flighs after Dec. 31. Mesaba currently employs 12 people at St. Cloud airport.
