No Travel Advised In Cook County

GRAND MARAIS, Minn. (AP) ― No travel is advised on roads in northeastern Minnesota's Cook County.

Heavy rains have flooded some roads. The county's emergency manager is recommending people don't drive in the county until crews are able to evaluate flooding and clear debris from roads.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says three areas of state Highway 61 are flooded over and covered with debris. Those areas are five miles south of the Cook/Lake county line, the Lutsen area, and an area just east of Grand Marais.

Grand Marais resident Stephan Hoglund says he awoke this morning to find the streets flooded. He said that the main highway has since been cleared however, and Grand Marais businesses are remaining open.

He says the Devil Track River is backed up like a lake behind a log jam.

The National Weather Service said nearly 5 inches of rain fell on Grand Marais overnight.
