'Disappointed' Childress Will Discipline Smith
Minneapolis (WCCO) ―
Vikings coach Brad Childress expressed his disappointment today in starting safety Dwight Smith.
During a Sunday afternoon news conference at the Vikings' practice field at Winter Park, Childress said "A ton of good things happened Friday night," referring to the team's 30-7 exhibition win over Baltimore. But, he added, "those good things get marred when someone in the organization misbehaves, if you will."
Smith, 28, in his first season with the Vikings after playing four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, received a citation early Saturday for alleged indecent conduct with a 24-year-old woman in a stairwell near a downtown Minneapolis nightclub.
Childress said that he will discipline Smith for the latest off-the-field embarrassment involving the team, though he did not specify what that discipline will be.
"I just want everyone to know that we're committed in this Viking organization -- myself, our staff, our football team, our organization -- to doing things the right way," he said.
"I'm disappointed when we're able to be judged outside those white lines that we worked so hard to prepare for," he said.
Smith practiced today with the rest of the Vikings, who visit Dallas Thursday to take on the Cowboys in their final preseason game.
