For the second time in three years, a wayward wild turkey found its way into the home of a Bloomington, Minn., family, reportedly causing thousands of dollars in damage and leaving a blood-spattered trail of blood, feathers and debris in its wake.
Sandy Cobbs said she heard a thunderous crash in her living room on Thanksgiving morning while in the kitchen preparing sweet potatoes and vegetables to bring to her sister. She entered to find broken glass, blood stains and a dazed and confused turkey wildly flapping all over her drapes, carpets and furniture.
"I just can't believe this happened twice, both times on a holiday and that we had a live turkey on Thanksgiving," she said.
In both incidents the turkeys entered through the same window. The first time on Christmas Day 2004, insurance paid out $10,000 for the damage. But this time, the family isn't so sure.
"I don't know if I can turn in another claim," she said.
Bloomington Police said Sandy Cobb's husband, Bill, eventually shooed the wounded turkey out of the house. Police were unable to find the errant and wounded fowl during their investigation.
Cobb said wild turkey frequent her wooded backyard near the 1,000 acre Hyland Lake Park Reserve. "Frankly I haven't seen his brothers and sisters around lately either, so he's somewhere out there."
