The rules on the getting tickets to games, concerts and other events will change August 1 when ticket scalping becomes legal in Minnesota. Already, one Wisconsin-based ticket broker is planning on opening up shop in Minneapolis the first day he can.
Right now people are using other means to get the tickets they desire.
Tickets may only be $35 for Ryan Adam's June 18 concert at the Cedar Cultural Center, but fans on Craig's List are willing to spend up to $200.
It's not legal yet in Minnesota, but one woman wrote in her online plea, "They sold out in ten minutes... please help!"
When it becomes legal later this summer, Ticket King will open an office near the Metrodome and there are plans to open another office near St. Paul's Xcel Center later in the summer.
"I didn't make the rules," said Ticket King co-owner Michael Nowakowski. "I just follow them."
Nowakowski said he doesn't think fans will see all that much of a difference in price or availability of tickets beyond convenience. For years, they have been selling to Minnesota residents online.
"We've grown up both environments. Minnesota, for years, people were taught what we done is unethical or immoral. Then, in Wisconsin, people embrace us because we can get the Packer tickets."
Nowakowski also said ticket sales have been slow this season. The demand for Minnesota Viking and Twins game tickets are down and there only a handful of big concerts in the Twin Cities this summer.
