Winter Carnival Parade Still On Despite Cold

ST. PAUL (AP) ― The St. Paul Winter Carnival Grande Day Parade will go on Saturday, despite the frigid temperatures and bitter wind chills in the forecast.

The National Weather Service forecast for the Twin Cities calls for temperatures dropping to 12 below to 15 below zero early Saturday, with winds chills of minus-25 to minus-30, and highs Saturday in the low single digits above zero.

Certain Winter Carnival events are being shortened or will start late. But the officials say the King Boreas Grande Day Parade will start as planned at 2 p.m. in downtown St. Paul, although some units have dropped out due to the cold.

Winds chills dropped to the 20s below zero in some parts of western Minnesota and the 30s below in parts of northern Minnesota Friday evening. They were forecast to plunge to close to 40 below in west-central Minnesota overnight.
