The shipping season for the Upper Mississippi River is coming to an end.
The St. Paul district of the US Army Corps of Engineers says it will start closing eight of its 13 locks and dams for the winter season on Sunday. Those eight are from St. Anthony Falls to lock 5-A near Winona.
The remaining five will close on Friday, Dec. 5, at the latest. The shipping season started in March.
