On-Duty Cop Accused Of Drinking, Strip Club Visit

Second Officer Accused Of Drinking On The Job

by Caroline Lowe
Minneapolis (WCCO) ― Two Minneapolis Police officers are under investigation, accused of drinking on duty, and internal police investigators want to know if one of them ended up at a Minneapolis strip club.

Sgt. Patrick Daly and Sgt. Robert Berry have been working as supervisors in the department's S.T.O.P. Unit. The elite unit responds to crime in hotspots throughout the city.

The new internal investigation began after a citizen complained Friday.

Sources tell WCCO-TV the focus is whether the two supervisors were drinking on duty last Thursday night in downtown Minneapolis.

Sources also confirm investigators are looking into whether Daly was on duty when he allegedly visited Sinners nude dance club and whether he later drove a police squad after he had been drinking.

"The quote from my bartender was: 'The drunkest cop ever,'" said the club's manager, Corey Meyer.

Meyer said a man with a police badge also tried to leave before paying for a lap dance. Meyer said he called 911 for help. Police responded and took the man away, but Meyer said another police officer returned and handed him $20.

"He told me to keep the change," Meyer said.

Minneapolis internal affairs investigators contacted Sinners staff Friday about the incident.

Police Chief Tim Dolan could not comment on the specifics of the investigation, but "we take these allegations very seriously," he said, "and if they turn out to be true, there would be serious consequences."

A third supervisor is also being investigated for how he handled the case.

All three are on duty as the investigation continues.

None of the officers was available for comment.
