1 Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting On I-94

Sauk Centre, Minn. (AP) ― One person died Sunday after a shooting involving a police officer on Interstate 94 in central Minnesota.

Two Alexandria police officers were placed on paid administrative leave after shooting a man who police said led them on a high-speed chase through the streets of Alexandria and onto Interstate 94.

The incident closed both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-94 near Osakis and Sauk Centre for nearly eight hours, on one of the busiest travel weekends.

Authorities were not giving much information on the incident, but said that Alexandria police received calls at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday reporting a man was driving while armed and impaired.

The man led them on a chase through Alexandria and onto I-94, and police finally contained him near Osakis and Sauke Centre using stop sticks. They tried to negotiate with the man, but shots were fired shortly after and the man died at the scene.

The identities of the victim and the police officers were not released.
