Former Beauty Queen Appeals Conviction

Minneapolis (WCCO) ― Former Mrs. Minnesota Dee Henderson was back in federal court Wednesday morning.

Henderson is appealing her conviction for Social Security fraud, which a federal judge found her guilty of last year.

Home video from prosecutors has shown Henderson on vacation, picking up her children at the same time she was claiming disability from illnesses such as migraine headaches.

In appeals court Wednesday, the prosecutor said Henderson lied to Social Security officials. Henderson's defense attorneys argued she was ruled disabled by the Social Security Administration, so she did not commit fraud.

Henderson is currently serving a four-year sentence in an Illinois prison, but would like to serve her time closer to home.

"She's adjusting, and is on limited work duty because of her disability," said Ken Henderson, Dee Henderson's husband. "She is filling butter cups and studying and reading, and waiting to come home."

Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., has written a letter on Henderson's behalf, in an effort to get her transferred back to Minnesota.

In the letter, Coleman writes, "Allowing her to be transferred to a location closer to her children will improve the quality of her children's life by allowing her to continue acting as a motivational force in their development."

It could take several months for the three-judge panel to make a decision.
