St. Paul-Minneapolis Light Rail Clears Hurdle
St. Paul (AP) ―
A proposed light rail line between St. Paul and Minneapolis has cleared a major hurdle.
A federal agency has agreed the project would be cost-effective.
Ramsey County Commissioner Rafael Ortega chairs the Ramsey County Regional Rail Authority. Ortega says clearing the hurdle improves the chances the project will win final federal and state approval.
The 11-mile, $840 million rail line would go down the middle of University Avenue.
Tuesday, the Federal Transit Administration accepted calculations by local officials that showed the Central Corridor's projected costs are low enough to allow the project to go ahead.
