Governor Pawlenty is proposing a law that would require insurance companies doing business in Minnesota to tell customers they are eligible for flood insurance.
The governor says many people in the flood area of southeastern Minnesota didn't know they could buy flood insurance. Pawlenty's proposal came after a man at a public meeting in Rushford suggested the idea.
Spokesman Mark Kulda of the Insurance Federation of Minnesota says the group agrees that many people misunderstand what's required to be eligible for flood insurance.
Kulda says the insurance federation totally supports additional education to make sure consumers know all the options that are available.
