Calling to mind the lyrics of a certain Alanis Morissette song, rain on a Ham Lake, Minn. couple's wedding day turned out to be an ironic blessing in disguise.
On the morning of Aug. 11, Cheryl Johnson's woke up on her wedding day to every bride's worst nightmare -- a summer storm was rolling through, and her forecast for a sunny wedding was starting to look dreary.
"'The way this rain was coming down, it's going to be over an inch for sure,'" she remembered thinking. "So I started smiling again."
That's because the happy couple was about to make the most of a rainy day.
For two years now, Minneapolis-based Bergstrom Jewelers has promised to pay for your wedding ring if it rains more than an inch at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on your wedding day.
Cheryl Johnson's fiancee Jeff Johnson had bought her ring at Bergstrom, and with the rains came the guarantee that the ring would be reimbursed in full.
"It was just under $3,000, and I wish I would have spent more," said Jeff Johnson with a smile.
Furthermore, by the time their wedding rolled around that afternoon, the skies had cleared and the sun had come out, putting the lucky couple in a win-win situation.
"It's not a million dollars like Publisher's Clearing House, but it kind of felt like it," said Jeff Johnson.
After the wedding, the couple tried to continue their good fortune.
"I did buy a raffle for a free Harley in a small town, but they didn't call us," said Jeff Johnson, adding their future still looks bright. "We are starting on a new life with a free ring."
The Johnsons are the first couple ever to win Bergstrom's "Wedding Showers" promotion.
