The First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minnesota City has been condemned due to extensive flood damage.
Pastor Dave Eckert says an inspector issued the condemnation order today as parishioners were working to repair the damage and clean up the church. He says the order cites structural damage and repairs needed for all utilities, including the heating system and wiring.
The order also said a structural engineer will need to be called to conduct another inspection. Eckert says the order may be appealed.
Eckert says the congregation of 47 will hold services at 8:30 tomorrow morning at the First Baptist Church in Minnesota City, across the street from the Lutheran Church.
After that, he says he doesn't yet know where the congregation will meet.
The First Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in 1965. Eckert said the church parsonage survived the flood with little damage.
