Coyotes Keeping Red Wing Residents Up At Night

Red Wing, Minn. (AP) ― A coyote problem has one neighborhood's residents howling for help.

Residents in the Neal Street area say they hear coyotes frequently at night, but increasingly the animals are paying visits to the neighborhood.

"They're loud, but you can deal with that," Vicki Moehnke said. "You get that if you live in the country. It's more the fact that they have been right in our backyard."

Eleven residents filed a petition with the City Council requesting a solution.

Craig Kronbeck said he's seen a significant increase in the number of coyotes near his home since this summer. He guesses there are between seven and 10 in the area.

"You can hear them howling on three different hills back there," Kronbeck said.

Moehnke said the animals are losing their fear of humans, and she's afraid they might attack a child.

"It would be very sad for someone to lose a pet," she said. "But it would be tragic if someone lost a child."
