Authorities are trying to determine the source of carbon monoxide that killed a teenager and sickened other family members in their new home in North Branch, Minn.
"We working on it feverishly," said North Branch building inspector Rich Meyer. "We're going to get it done as soon as possible."
Andrew Carlson, 17, died in his sleep. His body was found Tuesday morning in a lower-level bedroom. An autopsy report released Thursday confirmed that he died of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
Four other family members were able to get out of the house. Two were hospitalized for treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning.
North Branch Police Chief Stephen Forner has said the furnace was the "prime suspect" for the carbon monoxide leak.
At Chisago Lakes High School on Wednesday, Andrew Carlson's classmates recalled his love of hunting, fishing and four-wheeling.
"You couldn't be around Andrew and be mad," said Andrea Franta, 16. "When he was around, you were happy, no matter what was going on with you that day."
Friends said Andrew was proud of the new house he had helped his father build over the summer. The house did not yet have a telephone or a carbon monoxide alarm when the family moved in last weekend.
