Mpls. Cancer Survivor Is Texas-Bound By Bike
St. Paul (AP) ―
A Minneapolis cancer survivor plans to leave on the bike ride of her life this morning.
Annemiek Sistermans will leave the state Capitol steps around 8:30 a.m. to start an 1,100-mile bike trip to Austin, Texas.
She plans to cover 60 to 70 miles a day and arrive in Austin on Oct. 7 -- in time to ride in two of Lance Armstrong's 100-mile charity rides.
Sistermans said she thought it was a cool way to celebrate five years of surviving cancer. She grew up riding her bike in the Netherlands and was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001.
The 38-year-old physical therapist will have a support crew of family following her.
She had to raise $15,000 to participate in Armstrong's "Ride for the Roses" charity event.
