Vikes' Double Whammy: Robinson Cut, Smith Cited
Minneapolis (CBS) ―
The Minnesota Vikings have scheduled an 11:45 am news conference following its decision to cut receiver Koren Robinson from the team's roster -- ten days after he was charged with drunken driving and fleeing police -- and one day after safety Dwight Smith was cited by Minneapolis police for 'indecent conduct.'
The Vikings had signed Robinson to a three-year, 12-point-7 (m) million-dollar contract extension after he made the Pro Bowl as a kick returner.
Smith, 28, and an unidentified 24-year-old woman were cited for 'indecent conduct' in a stairwell at the Escape Ultra Lounge, 600 Hennepin Ave. South, in the Block E building early Saturday morning. Both Smith and the woman were released at the scene. Police were reportedly tipped off by a phone call.
Smith signed as a free agent last month with the Vikings and is expected to be a starter in Minnesota's defensive backfield this year. He played in the Vikings' Friday night preseason game at the Metrodome against the Baltimore Ravens.
Smith, who joined the Vikings this year after four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was charged in March 2005 with aggravated assault with a weapon after aiming a pellet gun at two young men who approached Smith while he was waiting in his car at a McDonald's drive-thru window.
