If hiring someone to look through applications of romantic possibilities for you seems unromantic, especially on Valentine's Day, you are probably not alone.
Frank Cassidy and Dawn Brunette, however, said they owe their romantic holiday this year to the Twin Cities dating service It's Just Lunch, which offers arranged dates hand-selected by professional matchmakers.
"I was really reluctant to do it at first," said the client Cassidy.
Still, anyone who has spent time trying to figure out the dating scene on their own would likely admit a little extra help never hurts.
"When you are a busy person, you are working all day and you have activities all night with your kids or friends, you have to fit it in somewhere," said Brunette. "Where are you going to do that?"
Brunette and Cassidy both found it difficult to devote the time or effort to searching for a perfect match. Both tried the bar scene, but eventually felt they had outgrown it.
"I'm a busy professional, and I'm obviously not finding people that I can date in the bars," reasoned Brunette. "So if I'm in the situation, there have to be a lot of men in this situation."
When she paid the $1,500 fee to sign up for It's Just Lunch's dating service, her dance card filled up quickly.
"It's like people say in your work, 'Don't work harder, work smarter.' And this is a smart way to meet somebody," she said, although she had to test out 14 prospective partners before landing on Cassidy. The two hit it off immediately.
"Soon enough, the bar was closing and we were the only people left," Cassidy remembered.
"We didn't even realize it," Brunette said.
It wasn't long before he surprised her with an engagement ring on a recent cruise. As far as they're concerned, their investment and willingness to let a guiding hand help them through the dating scene has paid off.
"I think it's important be true to yourself, don't settle," said Brunette. "Go out there and take a chance."
Though she went through a full stack of dates, Cassidy only went on one date before he was set up with his fiance.
