The Superior and Chippewa national forests are banning the transport or use of firewood gathered outside of Minnesota on Forest Service lands within both forests.
The new policy is aimed at preventing the introduction and spread of invasive species, including the emerald ash borer.
Minnesota contains the third largest concentration of ash trees in the nation.
The state of Minnesota already is prohibiting campers from bringing firewood into state parks and other state lands.
