Flags To Be Lowered In Officer's Honor
St. Paul (WCCO) ―
Gov. Tim Pawlenty has ordered flags to fly at half-staff in honor of a Twin Cities police officer killed in the line of duty.
Officer Shawn Silvera of the Lino Lakes Police Department was killed along Interstate 35W Tuesday during a police chase.
All U.S. and state flags will be lowered to half-staff on state properties Monday in Silvera's honor, the governor's office said.
Silvera's visitation will be held today at the Church of the Epiphany in Coon Rapids, Minn. His funeral service and interment will take place Monday, also in Coon Rapids.
Pawlenty will attend Silvera's funeral service, the governor's office said.
A memorial fund has been established for Silvera's family. Donations may be sent to the Shawn Silvera Memorial Fund, Lino Lakes State Bank, 7449 Village Dr., Lino Lakes, MN 55014.
Investigators believe Steven D. Stanke stuck and killed Silvera while fleeing police in a stolen car. Prosecutors say Stanke had several warrants out for his arrest in South Dakota.
Stanke faces murder charges and is being held on $1 million bail.
