Coleman To Donate Craig's Campaign Contribution

WASHINGTON (AP) ― Sens. Norm Coleman and Susan Collins are donating political contributions they received from Sen. Larry Craig's political action committee to charity.

Coleman's campaign manager, Cullen Sheehan, said Thursday that the Minnesota Republican will donate the $2,500 contribution he received two months ago from Craig's "Alliance for the West" PAC to Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis, which provides assistance to the poor.

Collins, a Maine Republican, will donate the $2,500 contribution she received from the PAC to charity, her office said Thursday.

Coleman has already called on Craig to resign. Craig, an Idaho Republican, pleaded guilty this month to a charge stemming from an undercover police operation in a Minneapolis airport bathroom.

Sheehan declined to comment on Coleman's decision, referring to Coleman's earlier statement that Craig had pleaded guilty to a crime involving conduct "unbecoming a senator."

In 2008, the Human Rights Campaign gave Craig a zero rating, meaning he consistently voted in a manner that did not support the HRC's position of civil equality for the GLBT community.
