Search Planned For Missing SCSU Student

St. Cloud, Minn. (WCCO) ― A widespread search of downtown St. Cloud, Minn. is planned for Monday to search for a missing St. Cloud State University student.

Scot Radel, 21 of Owatonna, Minn., was last heard from around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when he called his friends after leaving a St. Cloud bar.

Investigators said Radel asked for directions to another bar where he was to meet his friends, but never showed up.

Police are asking for people to check their cars and property for any signs of Radel. Investigators are also checking footprints found on the Mississippi River ice to see if they match the shoes Radel was wearing.

On Saturday, police did not think those footprints matched Radel's, but on Sunday they were sent to the BCA or FBI to be further analyzed.

"This shoe print matches pretty close to the one by the river," said Stephanie Radel, Scot Radel's sister. Stephanie Radel was referring to a photocopy of a shoe print her brother may have been wearing.

On Sunday, firefighters braved thin ice and searched on the river, which has large sections of open water. Firefighters also photographed the footprints on the ice, which have markings that seem similar to the Doc Martens that Scot wears.

The prints show that someone walked a good distance onto the ice, police said.

"That imprint comes very close to what we have," said Allen Radel, Scot Radel's father. "It's not a positive match but it could be."

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner is still deciding whether to put his divers into the river in hopes of finding Radel.

Though Allen Radel has not slept in days, he is doing detective work himself, walking the route Scot Radel did. Since Scot Radel was not wearing a jacket, his father wonders if he got so cold, he became confused and wound up near the river.

"If you were disoriented a little bit in the area that he walked, if he was two blocks off that would be within the realm of reason," Allen Radel said.

Friends said they were not sure if Scot Radel was intoxicated the night he went missing. Friends have hung missing posters throughout St. Cloud.
