Rep. Mark Olson's domestic abuse trial was set for May 7, meaning the legislative session will be almost over before he learns his fate.
Olson, R-Big Lake, wanted to wait until June, but a judge set the May date during a pretrial hearing Friday. Olson's legislative colleagues are waiting until the judicial process plays out before deciding whether to pursue ethics charges against him, up to a possible expulsion from the Legislature
Olson was arrested Nov. 12 after his wife told deputies that she was pushed to the ground three times during an argument with her husband. He has entered a not guilty plea to the two misdemeanor charges against him.
Before the 2007 session began, the House Republican caucus suspended Olson and some of its members called for his resignation.
His district includes Big Lake, Becker, Zimmerman and Clear Lake.
