Despite GOP's Rebuff, Rep. Olson Pledges To Serve

St. Cloud, Minn. (AP) ― The House Republican caucus may have suspended Rep. Mark Olson of Big Lake, but he said he's still going back the Legislature next month.

Olson has been charged with domestic abuse, but he has not been convicted. Olson said he doesn't understand the decision by his caucus, which was announced Friday.

Olson said it won't stop him from representing his district, which includes Becker, Big Lake, Clear Lake and Zimmerman.

"I have a lot of support and I don't see any reason why this would keep me from being able to represent people," he said. "It just won't look good for a while."

Olson is due in court on Tuesday. He was arrested in November and charged with shoving his wife.

The decision by the caucus means that Republican won't supply Olson with staff, support or allow him to caucus with them.

"Maybe it means I'm an independent now," Olson said. "I don't know. I've always been sort of independent."
